The advantages to Eating healthier

Guest Post by the lovely vivacious Blogger I know as Vicky

Vicky is a lovely lady, who has recently taken steps to change her future, below she has written her take on Joining the Popular Club that is known as Slimming World

My name is Vicky and I blog at Miss Tilly and Me and I have been blogging for five years although we have rebranded in April because Tilly was growing up and I wanted a Blog that would grow up with her. You can also find me on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram

A couple of months ago if someone had mentioned to me about how I should eat more healthily I probably would have punched them in the face because I love chocolate too much and my Fine Foods every Thursday night was a fish and chip night from the local chippy and I was happy with what I was eating. Then one day I woke up and thought enough is enough and I started going to Slimming World, the difference I feel in swapping my food is amazing. I feel healthier my skin looks healthier and I find doing the school run even easier because I don’t feel sluggish and tired as much as I was feeling. You don’t need to join a slimming group to eat healthfully and here I would like to share a few tips on healthy eating.

Don’t rush your food

I am always eating on the go and sometimes I need to eat fast but now instead I eat more slowly and enjoy every mouthful so eating is more pleasurable and not something that I just have to do. The slower you eat the easier it will be to tell if you’ve eaten enough or not, you will get less indigestion and You say that every mouthful.
Meal planning
it’s easy for me to write about meal planning but sometimes it’s harder to put it into practice. planning meals means that you can save money when you shop because you buy all your ingredients beforehand and don’t rely on grabbing a ready-made meal when you’re tired after work. It is healthier because you can cook from scratch. and every time you pop in to grab something to eat for your dinner you’re more likely to pick up snacking bits too, which is not so healthy.

Healthy snacks

I am a picky eater I like to have food that I can pick out in between my meals and I’m sure I’m not the only person that does this. This was the hardest part of Slimming World that I found, alternating my sweets and chocolate for cherry tomatoes and cucumber sticks or health bars. It took a while but I seem to be enjoying cherry tomatoes because they’re sweet and they just give me that sweet fix that I need. when I’m at work I always have a punnet of cherry tomatoes on the side so I can pop out the back and have a couple to tide me over till lunch.

Drink water You don’t have to just drink plain water you can have water in soups and sugar-free squashes. This will help to keep you hydrated and also sometimes water helps you to feel fuller too. Water is good for the inside of your body as well as the outside it makes your skin look so much better as well as cleanses your liver and helps to flush out your body. I try and drink at least a litre of water a day it doesn’t always work but I am getting better at it.

Don’t make drastic changes

If you cut out all of the unhealthy stuff in one go and switch straight away to healthy eating you will hate it! Make small changes in your diet cut out chocolate and sweets but still eat food you enjoy, then when you’re ready cut-out cooking sauces in jars and make your own. Cut out sugar in your tea and coffee, switch to sugar-free drinks. if you make a drastic change and cut everything out all in one go your body will feel deprived and you’ll feel unhappy because you’re not getting the foods that make you feel happy.

Cook from scratch

I am the first person to put my hands up and say that I use sauces in jars, I find them convenient cheap an easy to use. You can just throw a sauce over your meat or vegetables and you have a meal really quickly.  But what is actually in the sauces? You will be so much better off making your own sauces by using fresh vegetables and either blending them down to make a sauce or if you’re making something like spaghetti bolognese, just use a passata sauce or a tin of chopped plum tomatoes and some tomato puree. This is so much better for your children because you know what the ingredients are and you know that they’re getting enough vegetables in their meal. When you cook from scratch you can also make alterations to a menu instead of using cream you could use a skimmed milk, I did this the other day when I made risotto for Tilly and instead of using the cream I used a small amount of semi-skimmed milk and of extra light Laughing Cow cheeses.

What you eat, shouldn’t rule your life. Enjoy your food and don’t ever let food take charge of your life. swapping to eating healthy will make you feel better but it’s not the be-all and end-all if you’re happy with what you are then so be it.
